If you still groove to the work of the Beat poets, and Kerouac is your idol, a guided visit to their New York stomping grounds is a mandatory pilgrimage. If, alternatively, you're going to New York but feel overwhelmed by its size and options, a focus--taking a walking tour of Kerouac land, for instance--could provide an entertaining structure.

Kerouac's novel is often I first read Jack Kerouac the summer of 1971. Temporarily out of school and looking for a distraction, I picked up Dharma Bums—not because the iconography of the blatant yellow of the cheap paperback cover hollered Woodstock and Counter Culture but because I was interested in Gary Snyder's poetry. Despite our doors being closed since March 13th, the Beat Museum was able to survive 2020 thanks to the continuing support of Beat readers around the world.
